Chad Pennington’s 1st and 10 Foundation Awards $110,000 In Grant Funds To Organizations in West Virginia and East Tennessee

February 4, 2010 – Chad Pennington’s 1st and 10 Foundation is pleased to announce that it has awarded $110,000 to deserving organizations throughout West Virginia and East Tennessee for the Fall 2009 grant cycle. The Foundation, which awards grants on a semi-annual basis, issued $197,500 to organizations in 2009.

“The growth of the Foundation is something we are very proud of”, said Chad Pennington, Foundation President. “In 2010, we will reach the $1 million mark and we are excited to meet that challenge. Our supporters have been amazing and have helped make a difference in the lives of many in the community.”

Since its inception in 2003, the Foundation has distributed $930,999 in funds to organizations in the Foundation’s geographical areas, including over $700,000 in West Virginia.

The following organizations have received grants for the second grant cycle of 2009:

Tri-County YMCA
Funding to create/renovate outdoor athletic fields that are on-site at the Tri-County YMCA facility that will enhance the existing youth sports programs.

Operation Best
Funding for supplies and equipment to allow Operation BEST to move into all Cabell County Schools. The program works to provide students with communications, critical thinking, problem solving and team building skills that will make them more marketable in the workforce.

Shinnston Lions Club
Funding to revitalize the old Jaycee basketball courts and convert them to tennis courts and provide equipment to area youth.

Wyoming County Youth Coalition Project YES
Funding for Youth Empowerment Services (YES) - a program designed to help youth create change within their community.

Children's Place Funding to replace carpet, buy new furniture and dinnerware for Children's Place - an early learning center in East Huntington.

Beckley/Raleigh County YMCA
Funding to create a youth cardiac room - and equip it with six S3Y bikes designed for youth.

Believe in WV
Funding for pallet racks for Stonehouse - a warehouse that temporarily stores donated products so that they can be distributed to people in need.

Helen Ross McNabb Center
Funding to provide commercial playground equipment at the Helen Ross McNabb Knoxville Children & Youth Center.

Camp Sycamore Creek
Funding for completion of a three phase Challenge Course at the Camp Sycamore Creek facility.

Child Advocacy Center of Anderson County
Funding to expand the CVCC program that provides the community with information about the prevalence of child abuse, including how to recognize it, how to report it and public presentations and brochures.

Friends of the Zoo - Chattanooga Zoo
Funding to purchase a hybrid vehicle to help with "Spreading the News" a zoo outreach program.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Scott County
Funding for a countywide sanctioned basketball league for grades K-5 with no registration fee.

Chad Pennington's 1st and 10 Foundation Awards $107,500 For Spring 2009 Cycle

October 8, 2009 – Chad Pennington’s 1st and 10 Foundation is pleased to announce that it has given $107,500 to several organizations throughout Southern West Virginia, East Tennessee and South Florida areas and the West Virginia Tri-State area for the first half of 2009. The Foundation, which issues funds on a semi-annual basis, has awarded over $840,000 since its inception.

“This is an exciting time for the 1st and 10 Foundation”, said Chad Pennington, Foundation President. “We are so grateful to those that generously support the Foundation and we are proud to be able to help such wonderful organizations because of that support.”

The following organizations will receive funding from the 1st and 10 Foundation:

Mon County Habitat for Humanity (WV)

Purpose: Funding for West Virginia Football Build – the building of two homes which will help two deserving families.

American Red Cross Mid-Ohio Valley Chapter (WV)
Purpose: Funding to establish a youth oriented training program in eight WV counties – resulting in the development of Junior Red Cross Clubs for youth leadership and community service.

Friends in Action of the Eastern Panhandle (WV)
Purpose: Funding for a monthly life skills education dinner for low-income families, which will involve a professional guest speaker discussng issues necessary to achieve self-sufficiency.

Kanawha Charleston Soccer Foundation (WV)

Purpose: Funding to help with the construction of soccer fields to serve 5,000 children in the Kanawha Valley area.

Hamlin Little League (WV)
Purpose: Funding to materials to construct a tee-ball field at the Hamlin Lions Club Community Park.

Royal Family Kids Camps (WV)
Purpose: Funding for a week-long camp designed for children who have been abused, abandoned and neglected.

Ohio-West Virginia YMCA

Purpose: Funding for Building Teen Civic Leaders – a character building program that strengthens the civic leadership capacity of teens to be more responsible citizens working to improve their local schools and communities.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee

Purpose: Funding for a sports-based mentoring program pairs at-risk youth and adult mentors with a shared interest in sports. Mentors help children build confidence, enjoy new experiences and learn life skills through weekly opportunities to play and watch sports together.

Shangri-La Therapeutic Academy of Riding (STAR) (TN)
Purpose: Funding for therapeutic experiences using horse related activities for persons with disabilities or other special challenges. The participants learn compulsory moves on a stationary unit and then perform the moves on a moving horse.  

Community Health of East TN
Purpose: Van for meetings and counseling sessions for women and children who are victims of violence.

Queen for a Day – (WV, TN and FL)
Purpose: Funding for Queen for a Day and Heroes program – a project that offers play therapy through makeovers, manicures and tiaras for girls and fire fighter themed items to boys hospitalized with cancer.

Rainbow Guardian Inc. (FL)
Purpose: Funding for a 12-passenger vehicle needed to transport special needs residents from a group home facility to community activities.

NFL CHARITIES RECOGNIZES  89 PLAYER FOUNDATIONS AND AWARDS $1 MILLION IN GRANTS DURING INAUGURAL NFL CHARITIES WEEK

NFL Charities, the charitable foundation of the National Football League, has awarded $1 million in grants to support 89 charitable player foundations, it was announced today.

As part of NFL Charities Week, five player foundations receiving NFL Charities grants will be recognized at events nationwide on five consecutive days beginning today and continuing through April 3.  Players being celebrated this week are TORRY and TERRENCE HOLT, both free agents; MATT LIGHT, New England Patriots; CHAD PENNINGTON, Miami Dolphins; TONY RICHARDSON, New York Jets; and JASON WITTEN, Dallas Cowboys. Each player will host a community event this week.  A full list of the 89 player foundations receiving NFL Charities Grants this year is below.

“Our players know that the legacy they leave in the community is as important as any on-field achievements,” said NFL Commissioner ROGER GOODELL, president of the NFL Charities board of directors. “We are proud to support their foundations and applaud their efforts to make their communities healthy, happy, and safe.”

The NFL has long supported players’ philanthropic endeavors and NFL Charities has awarded more than $10 million to player foundations in recent years.

Formed in 1973, NFL Charities is a nonprofit organization that enables NFL teams and their players to contribute collectively to charitable causes on a national level.  NFL Charities, which has approved more than $110 million in grants to more than 300 different organizations since its inception, donates more than $10 million in grants annually to support causes such as sports-related medical research, youth health programs and the charitable work of current and former NFL players

Chad Pennington's 1st and 10 Foundation Awards $170,800 to Area Organizations For Fall 2008 Grant Cycle

Huntington, WV – March 3, 2009 – Chad Pennington’s 1st and 10 Foundation is pleased to announce that it has given $170,800 to deserving organizations throughout Tennessee and the West Virginia Tri-State area for the Fall 2008 grant cycle. The Foundation, which issues funds on a semi-annual basis, distributed nearly $300,000 to communities in 2008.

“Robin and I are so proud of the Foundation’s success”, said Chad Pennington, Foundation President. “The Foundation continues to grow each year, and with the help of our supporters and volunteers, we have distributed more than $700,000 in the past few years and expect to reach the $1,000,000 mark in the very near future.”

The following organizations will receive funding from the 1st and 10 Foundation:

Safe Harbor of Northeast Kentucky (serving Tri-State Area)
Funding for the purchase of sturdy safe playground for children at this domestic violence shelter.

First Book Huntington
Funding for the purchase of new books to economically challenged children in the Huntington area once a month for an entire year.

Holzer Hospice (Gallipolis, OH)

Funding for Camp Beaver – a bereavement camp for children who have experienced loss of a loved one in their young lives.

Holzer Senior Care Center (Gallipolis, OH)
Funding for the development of a Giving Hope Through Wellness – a wellness program for seniors at the shelterhouse and 2 walking trails.  

Junior Achievement of WV
Funding to provide entrepreneurial education to 1500 K-12 students attending public schools where 50% or more of the students receive free or reduced lunch.   

Deuteronomy Fund (Barboursville, WV)
Funding for Girls Place, an afterschool mentoring program. The girls attending the program study with the aid of volunteer tutors, assist with dinner prep, eat dinner, clean up and participate in an activity to educate or improve self-esteem.  

Appalachian Leadership & Education Foundation of Wyoming County, WV

Funding for 100 leadership field experiences – providing support for each student in his/her service activities and projects, as well as personal leadership curriculum materials and fellowship supplies.

Huntington City Mission (WV)
Funding for six weeks of day camp and one week of overnight camp for underprivileged children of the Huntington area.

Funding for a Volunteer 24/7 hotline to provide crisis intervention and support/advocacy services to victims of sexual assault and stalking.

Fentress Children’s Center of the Cumberlands (Jamestown, TN)
Funding for the Life Skills program that helps abused and at-risk children learn life skills. The program stresses each child’s dignity, self-worth, and potential for change and growth.

Starlight Starbright
Purpose: Funding for PC Pals program in Tennessee Hospitals. PC Pals reduce isolation and stress for hospitalized youth by providing entertainment, education and connectivity opportunities. This grant would supply six units to TN hospitals.

Campbell County Children’s Center (TN)
Purpose: Purchase of two computers for two behavioral wellness counselors, cost of annual audit and fiscal management expenses, taxes and insurance, and specific assistance to individuals/families served at the center.

Childhelp (TN)

Purpose: Funding for “My Portrait” project in partnership with the Knoxville Museum of Art. The program will consist of workshops for foster children in Childhelp’s care to create their own piece of art reflecting themselves or their feelings about the thousands of children in Tennessee’s foster care program.

1st and 10 Foundation Reaches $500,000 Milestone

Foundation Awards $127,484 In Grants for Spring Grant Cycle

September 8, 2008 – Chad Pennington’s 1st and 10 Foundation is pleased to announce that it has reached a significant milestone. More than $500,000 has been given to organizations since its inception in 2003. The Foundation has awarded $127,484 to eight organizations in Tennessee and West Virginia for this first grant cycle of 2008. The Foundation, which issues grants on a semi-annual basis, distributed $213,500 in 2007.

“This is an exciting day for the 1st and 10 Foundation”, said Chad Pennington, Foundation President. “Robin and I are so proud of the Foundation’s success and we are extremely grateful to the many people that have supported the Foundation and helped it grow into what it is today.”

The following organizations have received grants for the first grant cycle of 2008:

•  Tennessee Aquarium (Chattanooga, TN)
Funds to purchase a new outreach vehicle that will allow the Aquarium to deliver free environmental education programs to urban and economically disadvantaged children who cannot afford to visit the aquarium.

•  Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Tri-State (Huntington, WV)
Funding to further the campaign to seek additional male volunteers for the over 70 male children on the waiting list.

•  Huntington Habitat for Humanity (WV)
A joint project with Marshall University, this grant will help fund the construction of a Habitat House in Huntington.

•  The Bob Burdette Center, Inc. (Charleston, WV)
Funding to update the computer labs at all four West Side locations. All of the students attending The Bob Burdette Center are considered at-risk. These students do not have access to computers at home.

•  Cabell Huntington Hospital (WV)
Funding for a room at the Pediatric Hospital. This grant will equip a pediatric room to provide an age appropriate, child/family environment and service to promote an atmosphere of healing for its pediatric patients.

•  East Tennessee National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (TN)
Funding for the Play It Smart program – an education program targeted at high school student-athletes from economically disadvantaged enviromments where family & community support are lacking.

•  Cabell-Huntington Coalition for the Homeless (Huntington, WV)
Funding for Ready Room, a job reference & training center for homeless and at-risk individuals.

•  River Valley Child Development Services (Huntington, WV)
Funding for the renovation of Enterprise Child Development Center’s playground - to meet state licensing, Health Department, and NAEYC accreditation regulations, and to enhance the outdoor learning environment.

Chad Pennington's 1st and 10 Foundation Awards Record $178,500 For Fall 2007


Syosset, NY, February 8, 2008 – The 1st and 10 Foundation is pleased to announce that it has given $178,500 to nine organizations throughout Tennessee and West Virginia for the fall grant cycle. The Foundation, which issues grants on a semi-annual basis, distributed $213,500 to communities in 2007.

“We are so pleased to be able to give back to these organizations within our geographical area”, said Chad Pennington, Foundation President. “The Foundation continues to grow each year, and as a result, we are able to reach out to more organizations, which is very exciting.”

The following organizations received grants for Fall 2007:

• Hospice of Huntington (WV) – funding to purchase a four-wheel drive vehicle to deliver medications to patients in rural West Virginia.

• Barnett Child Care Center (Huntington, WV) – funding to expand capabilities of the Center to provide infant-2 year-old care in accordance with licensure guidelines. The Barnett Child Care Program serves at-risk preschool and school-age children from low-income families in Huntington.

• YMCA (Huntington, WV) – funding to purchase a 15-passenger mini bus to transport participants in the YMCA child care program, and after school program. The YMCA Huntington transports over 100 children per day during the school year.

• Youth In Action (Vienna, WV) - Funding for 2008 Work Camp. 500 volunteers (teens and adults) gather to paint 40 homes in the Wood County Area for those that are not physically or financially able to paint their homes.

• Little Victories (Barboursville, WV) – funding to provide school groups, 4-H, and other children’s organizations the opportunity to work with animals & learn simple skills and humane care.

• Fellowship of Christian Athletes (South Central West Virginia) – funding to assist with the One Way 2 Play (OW2P) program, which equips young people with tools for a drug-free lifestyle.

• Childhelp Tennessee (Knoxville, TN) - funding to fully equip a second forensic interviewing room at the Childhelp Children’s Advocacy Center in Knoxville. This center served nearly 1,000 children in 2006.

• Knoxville Zoo (TN) – funding to support the Knoxville Zoo’s Youth “Vol” Volunteer Program’s expansion, including the purchase of biofact carts, host a community block party and create a youth computer work station.

• Great Smoky Mountain Council (Tennesee) - funding for The Outreach Program – a comprehensive values oriented program that meets the community’s needs to teach its young adults the skills necessary to become full-fledged and productive adults.

Chad Pennington's 1st and 10 Foundation Taking Children from Child & Family Tennessee ( Knoxville) to Target for Christmas Shopping Spree

Knoxville, TN, December 15, 2006 - Chad Pennington's 1st and 10 Foundation will be taking 25 children from Child & Family Tennessee (Knoxville) on a shopping spree at Farragut SuperTarget, in Knoxville, TN, on Monday, December 18, 2006. The event will begin at 10 a.m. The children will each be given giftcards to spend on items of their choosing.

"The 1st and 10 Foundation is honored to be sponsoring this event," said Chad Pennington, President. "As a native of the Knoxville area, it gives me great pleasure to be able to give back to the community, particularly these children, during this special time of year."

Since 1929, Child and Family Tennessee has served vulnerable children and families in the East Tennessee area. The organization provides a wide range of services to more than 21,000 residents of the East Tennessee area. Through over 30 innovative programs and services, over 500,000 lives are touched each year in the 16 county service area.

"Our kids and our staff are just elated about this shopping trip," said Kate O'Day, CEO of Child & Family Tennessee. "This really brightens the holidays for these kids who are living in very difficult situations. We have used this trip as a learning opportunity also, as each child has made a list and a plan for how to spend his or her money."

Five grants, totaling $80,000 were issued to nonprofit organizations in West Virginia and Kentucky. The Founda,tion, which issues grants on a semi-annual basis, has awarded over $185,000 to organizations in 2006.
